This is due to the fact that one or more\nfactors may be expensive or time consuming to change i.e.\nhard-to-change factors. These factors restrict the use of\ncomplete randomization as it may make the experiment expensive\nand time consuming. Split plot designs can be used for such\nsituations. In general model estimation of split plot designs\nrequire the use of generalized least squares (GLS). However for\nsome split-plot designs ordinary least squares (OLS) estimates\nare equivalent to generalized least squares (GLS) estimates.\nThese types of designs are known in literature as\nequivalent-estimation split-plot design. For method details\nsee, Macharia, H. and Goos, P.(2010)\n.Balanced split plot\ndesigns are designs which have an equal number of subplots\nwithin every whole plot. This package used to construct\nequivalent estimation balanced split plot designs for different\nexperimental set ups along with different statistical criteria\nto measure the performance of these designs.
